Spreading Hope

I'll be sharing some pictures of the trip I took to Honduras in January with a great group of people from my community.

This was a life-changing, eye-opening experience.

The local's in the La Esperanza community on the edge of Puetro Cortez lived in the city dump just 20 months ago. The conditions were disgusting, even compared to third-world standards. It was so bad, the local government decided to move the people of Cocal Gracias to a new colony on the edge of the city. New, spartan homes made of concrete block were built and life has changed for the better.

The city fathers donated a sizable lot on which to build a church, clinic, and vocational school. For the first time in generations, the people of this community will have an opportunity to improve their quality of living, both economically and spiritually.

Our local church donated funds to help build the first phase of the facility and the folks on our trip worked to lay block and move tons of dirt to create the foundation for this new community center/church/school.

More financial assistance is need to complete the school and clinic.

It was fulfilling to leave behind the prosperity of our American culture to help spread hope to these people. I left on this trip thinking that I was going to go help change their lives. In reality, they have changed mine.
