The Sad Legacy of Katrina

It is the sad legacy of Katrina. Many lost everything two years ago.
Interestingly enough, local lawmakers first major legislative act was focused on getting the casino's back up an running.
Well, it worked. Today's New York Times provides an update on how things are going. It's great for the casinos. For folks struggling to get back on their feet, it is a different story.
Today's story is particularly interesting because it talks about the fact that the money is coming from locals who are trying to escape. An in trying to escape, they're losing their shirts.
Sadly, one comment in the story notes that there is no where else to go. The churches aren't back yet. Nor are the jobs. So people are desperately putting their hopes in slots, cards, and dice.
And the sad legacy of Katrina continues to ravage the Gulf Coast. At the end of the day, the wind and water eroded buildings and churches, but the casinos may win the ultimate blame for eroding hope and morality as this region works to make a comeback.
