We Westerners are so caught up in Ben Bernake's comments as the fed chief on the economy. Things are tough, but there is another type of recession that is growing--spiritual recession.
Just today, Pope Benedict has made a profound observation in Australia:
"The world needs this renewal," he said. "In so many of our societies, side by side with material prosperity, a spiritual desert is spreading, an interior emptiness, an unnamed fear, a quiet sense of despair."
In our most prosperous age (even in the wake of economic downturn), we are in a spiritual recession described as....
Spiritual desert
Interior emptiness
Unnamed fear
A quiet sense of despair....
But, alas, there is hope. Let your light shine today!
