iPad: Sky is the Limit

Just read a great blog post from Fast Company regarding the real potential offered by the iPad.

While many tech gurus and geeks were not impressed with the iPad, I tend to agree with the FC folks regarding the potential that the iPad offers as a platform.

I remember when I first purchased my iPod Touch a few years back. For several months, I just treated it like my  old iPod. I used it to play music. Then one day, I received the operating system upgrade that gave me access to the App store and a whole new world opened up.

I, like everyone else, was able to uniquely customize the blank slate that was my iPod Touch into a tool that suited my needs to a tee. I'm pretty sure there are no two iPod Touch or iPhone devices that are configured exactly the same.

I have my apps (news, games, social media) tailored to my needs. This combined with the slick experience is why I'm finding myself going to bed and waking up with my Touch.

If app developers can elicit this kind of behavior from users with the Touch, I can only imagine what will be delivered on the larger iPad platform.

For those who are disappointed in the iPad as delivered this week, you've lost that lovin' feeling. I think it is premature to pan this device. It's literally a blank slate waiting to be sculpted into something much more useful than anyone (even Apple and Steve Jobs) can imagine.

The sky truly is the limit.
