In my original post about iPhone 4S, I'll admit I poo-poo'd Siri, but that was before I had a chance to interact with it. Sounds like many others are in the same boat.
Voice technology is not new. It's been around on smart phones for a few years, most notably well done by Google. Many automobile's have voice technology built in. But for both Google and the vehicles, you have to learn a certain "language" to make it work. You have to think to make the technology work.
But this is where Siri is revolutionary. You don't have to think.
For example, on Saturday night we were looking for a place to sit down and eat dinner following the band contest at Ohio Stadium.
Red Lobster was our first stop, but the wait was 40 minutes. We decided to check out Ted's Montana Grill (one of our favorites). Instead of gambling on a similar wait, I decided to call ahead.
Enter Siri.
I activated the device and simply said "Give me the phone number for Ted's Montana Grill." Within seconds Siri pulled the number from the internet and asked me if I wanted it to call. I said "yes" and within about 30 seconds we found out there was no wait at Ted's. We were eating within 15 minutes.
Had I had my Samsung Fascinate, the process would have worked like this:
Six steps.
With Siri, I asked one question and had the info.
With Siri, I didn't have to think. The experience was simple and seamless.
I'm going to continue to explore Siri's ability. Apple strives for a seamless, excellent experience.
Siri has delivered so far, better than any voice control I've seen so far.
Another win for Apple.
