Old man winter 2009 is making a vocal entrance in the Midwest. A blizzard closed down parts of Iowa today and now forecasters in central Ohio are saying we're in for winds as strong as those brought on by Hurricane Ike in September 2008.
The National Weather Service forecast discussion this evening says Ohioan's can expect rain, a little bit of snow, but mostly strong winds. And since there is no Tiger Woods connection to Ohio (at least not yet), the local media is gearing up for coverage of the storm, as noted here by the Columbus Dispatch.
The big worry has to be power outages. Even though the temperature is supposed to warm up over the next 48 hours, everyone has to be just a little queasy about losing electricity for several days due to the high winds. And then I think off all those folks who had their roofs replaced because of the wind damage. Hope we can avoid that....
How strong are 60 mile per hour winds? Here's some video from September 2008 I snapped from my eNV2 demonstrating the wind speeds, literally, in our 'hood. Let's hope this isn't another Ike!
